Editor’s Letter: April Issue

Dear Neighbours,

Where to begin? We finally seem to be coming out of one worldwide crisis, straight into another! It would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the devastation Ukraine is experiencing and hope as a nation we can provide the necessary support Ukrainian families and individuals need. This can be demonstrated in a number of ways, either through monetary donations, donating essential supplies, or applying to be a sponsor. The UK government website has more information on how you can help at: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/ukraine-what-you-can-do-to-help.

Hopefully this edition of The Hunsbury Handbook can provide some normality during these turbulent times. In addition to our regular features, it’s also a valuable directory of local trades and services – I know how much our local businesses appreciate your support, as I have done over the past 14 years…a heart-felt thank you to you all.

In this month’s issue, we take a look back in time on page 10; and if you’re thinking of planting a tree for the jubilee, gardening expert Caroline Knight has advice on page 24.

Our finance feature this month in on life insurance, page 36; and with thousands of children entering the care system every year, we have a special article on fostering, page 38.

Finally, if you’re looking for a fun way to keep fit, why not try martial arts? It’s a great way to improve coordination and flexibility and can really boost your confidence, page 42.

Stay safe and well…
